Restoration
The aim is restoration, conservation, protection, or a combination of all three. Treatments include:
- A light surface clean for removing deposits of tobacco, soot, cooking.
- Removal of discoloured old varnish.
- ‘Reducing’ or flattening the raised craquelure or ‘crazy paving’ effect on the surface of many old oil paintings.
- In cases of severe damage or holes, patches can be applied to localised areas; where the original canvas is rotten and the whole paint surface needs stabilising, a complete relining can be performed on the studio vacuum table.
All the procedures used are completely reversible, and all the materials used are the best available.
